A number of Australian and Indonesian citizens reported missing in Aceh waters

Jakarta, IO – Seven people have been reported missing in Sarang Alu Waters, Banyak Islands, Aceh. They consist of four Australian nationals and three Indonesians (WNI) who are on holiday at Pinang Resort.

Search and rescue operation has been launched by Nias Search and Rescue Agency, per Jawapos, Tuesday (15/8).

It was reported that two wooden boats carrying 12 Australian tourists and five Indonesians were heading for Pinang Resort on Sunday (13/8).

However, one of them lost contact in Sarang Alu waters due to bad weather.

“Pinang Resort reported that one speedboat with 10 persons on boat had safely arrived on Penang Island, while another with seven persons have yet to arrive,” the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) said in a statement.

Nias Basarnas head Octaviano stated that it has coordinated with relevant agencies to search for the missing persons. Currently, the air and sea search is focused on tracing the last known position of the boat. (un)
