Densus 88 Arrests PT KAI Employee in Bekasi, Allegedly to be Terrorist

Jakarta, IO – Police anti-terror squad Densus 88 arrested a man identified as DE in Bekasi, Monday (14/8). He is suspected of being a terrorist affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Densus 88 spokesperson Aswin Siregar said DE is an employee of state railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI). He is suspected of frequently carrying out jihadi propaganda on social media, per Kompas, Tuesday (15/8).

“He was active on Facebook motivating others to do jihad,” said Aswin.

He said DE had also uploaded digital posters in Arabic and Indonesian about the ISIS leader, Abu Al Husain Al Husaini Al Quraysi. DE was also part of a special fundraising group on Telegram.

He was arrested at his residence in Harapan Jaya, North Bekasi, Monday (14/8). Densus 88 searched his house and found 18 firearms of various types and hundreds of bullets. They also found ISIS flags.

PT KAI confirmed that DE was its employee. The company’s corporate secretary Raden Agus Dwinanto Budiadji said he would further investigate DE’s involvement. He emphasized that the company would not tolerate acts that violate the law, especially if they are related to terrorism.

“KAI management will take stringent action against its employees if they are proven to be involved in terrorism cases,” said Agus. (un)
