Agus said a good understanding of monkeypox infection and early vigilance is key to prevent the spread of the disease which has been declared a global public health emergency recently by the World Health Organization (WHO).

According to him, efforts to avoid contact with patients suspected of being infected with the virus are the most effective prevention measure during an outbreak.
“This should be accompanied by surveillance and early detection of active cases in order to quarantine the infected to prevent a wider outbreak,” he said. (un)
