Jakarta, IO – Langsa Police Criminal Investigation Unit named three Bangladeshis as suspects in human trafficking over alleged smuggling of hundreds of Rohingya refugees to Aceh, Monday (18/3).

They are MH (49), the ship’s captain; AT (46), the crew member of the ship; and MS (27), a taxi driver, per Tribunnews, Tue (19/3).

They were charged for smuggling 137 ethnic Rohingya who made a landing in Kuala Parek Beach, Sungai Raya District, East Aceh, on February 1 2024.

Langsa Police chief Superintendent Andy Rahmansyah explained that the suspect status was issued to them after the police conducted comprehensive investigations. The case began after the police became suspicious of the seemingly deliberate stranding of Rohingya refugees in the area.
