Jakarta, IO – Mohammad Hatta, affectionately known as Bung Hatta, is a modest figure who always puts the interests of the people first so that they can attain welfare as the citizens of Indonesia because their honor, dignity and well-being is taken care of based on the principle of social justice.
Through an archival exhibition titled “Bung Hatta as Role Model” to commemorate the 44th anniversary of his passing, his daughter Prof. Dr. Meutia Farida Hatta Swasono hopes that the values and attitudes of the independence declarator can serve as a role model for the nation’s youths who will become the country’s leaders in the future.
“The aim is so that future leaders, especially the young generation, can get to know and take inspiration from Indonesia’s founding fathers, especially Bunga Hatta, to build on the independence and work for the progress of our nation,” said Meutia.
She said it was his love for his homeland why the first vice president of Indonesia selflessly devoted his life for the best interests of the people and the advancement of the nation.
“People should be able to enjoy life in their own country without having to suffer. That their children can get food education, that people are paid fair wage, have enough to eat, their health care is guaranteed. These are all the happiness that Bung Hatta aspires for,” he said.

“Actually, it’s not difficult to do the best thing for your country but unfortunately there are many people who don’t even want to try. In the past, our leaders didn’t have the convenience we all enjoy today but they could bring Indonesia forward. We should be doing better than them with all the advantages we have,” he said.
“I hope that future leaders of the Indonesia will shoulder the responsibility to advance Indonesia beyond their own selfish interests and realize that being a leader means making sacrifices for the country and the poeple,” she concluded. (bp)
