Jakarta, IO – Presidential candidate No 2 Prabowo Subianto attended the Erick Thohir United States Alumni (ETAS) volunteer meeting at Plaza Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (22/1). Prabowo said he felt honored to have been invited by Garibaldi “Boy” Thohir who represents the businessmen who graduated from US universities in the 1980s and 1990s.
“This is a great honor. I understand now why I lost twice (in 2014 and 2019) because previously I was not invited here,” joked Prabowo.
Prabowo felt happy and touched because the US alumni who attended predominantly wore light blue shirts as a form of support for him and his running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
“I see a lot of people wearing light blue shirts. I’m a bit optimistic now,” said Prabowo. He was also grateful for the trust and support given by ETAS volunteers.
Meanwhile, Boy Thohir said that the 120 volunteers who attended had been alongside Erick Thohir since he was on Jokowi’s 2019 campaign. This time, he said, they agreed to support Prabowo to become president in 2024.
“We certainly want to have a leader who is good for the public,” said Boy.
Faisal Saleh, who initiated the event, said hundreds of US alumni considered Prabowo the only figure suitable to lead Indonesia for the next five years.

“Moreover, his running mate understands the grass roots and development on the ground,” said Faisal. “From Boston to Los Angeles, from Washington to California, from Indiana to Florida we’re here with you.”
Prabowo was accompanied by Maruarar Sirait, Prabowo-Gibran campaign chairman Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, Democratic Party chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) and campaign spokesperson Budisatrio Djiwandono.
