Jakarta, IO – The Democratic Party chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, popularly known as AHY, said he is grateful to have joined the Gerindra-led Onward Indonesia Coalition (KIM) which nominated Prabowo-Gibran in the 2024 presidential election.
AHY said his party’s position on KIM is the best way. He believes that if he were still in the “old place”, his party’s prospect would not be “utterly destroyed”, per Detikcom, Mon (25/3).
“If we were there yesterday, we would be left alone,” said AHY at a breaking-the-fast event with the Democratic Party ranks in Jakarta, Saturday (23/3).
Before joining KIM, the Democratic Party was in the Change Coalition with NasDem Party and PKS. However, the Democratic Party left after NasDem nominated Muhaimin Iskandar, instead of AHY, as Anies Baswedan’s running mate.
The Democratic Party then changed tact by supporting Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka. AHY also admitted that he is happy to contribute to Prabowo-Gibran’s victory despite gaining less seats in the House.

“We may feel disappointed with the number of seats we won in the legislative election, but we won in our efforts to be in the government and contribute to fighting for the people’s interests,” said AHY.
The eldest son of the 6th president of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, was recently appointed by President Jokowi as the Agrarian and Spatial Planning, with concurrent role as head of the National Land Agency (BPN). (un)
