Police raid 20 illegal immigrants in West Jakarta

Jakarta, IO – The raid was conducted at an apartment in Cengkareng, West Jakarta. They are mainly from Africa and are detained at Soekarno-Hatta Class I Immigration Office.

Soekarno-Hatta Immigration Office head Muhammad Tito Andrianto said 17 of them are Nigerian, two from Ivory Coast and one from Ghana.

“Eight have overstayed their visa while 12 not able to show their travel documents,” said Tito, reported Metrotvnews, Friday (23/12).

Tito said the raid was conducted to beef up security during Christmas and New Year celebration.

The immigration office would contact the embassies of the detainees before deporting them if they are proven to have violated immigration rules. (un)
