Police: Papuan armed criminal group attacks motorcycle taxi drivers, killing 2

Jakarta, IO – Six motorcycle taxi drivers waiting for passengers in Mangabib village, Oksebang district, Gunung Bintang regency, Papua Highlands were reportedly attacked by the armed criminal group (KKB) on Monday (5/12), killing two of them while the fate and whereabouts of the another one remains unknown, reported Kompas, Tuesday (6/12).

Gunung Bintang Police chief Superintendent Cahyo Sukarnito said the incident was reported to the police on Monday at 5 p.m. WIT. “The two victims – La Usu and La Aman – succumbed to injuries caused by machete while the one that went missing is La Ati,” said Cahyo.

As of Monday night, Gunung Bintang police and military personnel have yet been able to evacuate the bodies and the survivors as it was already dark and raining heavily.

To reach the location of the incident, security officers have to cover a distance of 27 kilometres which take about two hours due to the challenging terrain.

“We plan to carry out the evacuation on Tuesday morning,” said Cahyo. (rr)
