Police found 20 body parts at the site of firework workshop blast in Blitar

Jakarta, IO – A massive explosion occurred in Sadeng hamlet, which is part of Karangbendo village in Blitar, East Java on Sunday (19/2) at around 10.30pm WIB.

Police said the source of the explosion came from a house belonging to a local named Darman who was also killed in the explosion that completely destroyed his house, used as a workshop to produce firework and firecracker, reported Kompas, Wednesday (22/2).

Blitar Police Chief Argowiyono revealed that the powerful blast killed four and injured six, as well as damaging dozens of houses in the vicinity. Locals told police that Darman used to produce fireworks ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday season.

“The location reeks of sulphur. We are witing from the results of analysis by the forensics lab and bomb squad,” said Argo.

Police has also found 20 human body parts, believed to be of the house’s inhabitants. “We found pieces of bones, flesh, hair, and other organs.” The police is matching them with the DNA of the victims’ family. (un)
