Paralympic athlete dead after being found unconscious next to rail road

Jakarta, IO – Indonesian table tennis paralympic athlete Dian David Michael Jacobs alias David Jacobs was found unconscious next to a train track between Gambir Station and Juanda Station, Central Jakarta, Friday (28/4).

Police are still investigating the exact cause of his death. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) denied that he died as a result of being hit by a train, reported Medcom, Saturday (29/4).

PT KAI Jakarta regional office spokesperson Eva Chairunisa revealed that David was found at 9.22 pm WIB, Thursday (27/4). First responders immediately took him to Husada Hospital, Central Jakarta. He was pronounced dead at 3.30 am WIB, Friday (28/4).

According to the police, David was found lying on the tracks 500 meters from Gambir Station and 200 meters from Juanda Station.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Komarudin said David was seen at the platform of Gambir Station before the incident. He entered Gambir Station at 8.12 pm WIB, Thursday (27/4). He has a train ticket for the Argo Lawu train bound for Solo on April 27. The train was scheduled to depart from Gambir at 9.45 pm WIB and arrive in Solo at 3.49 am WIB. David was known to board the train.

Police suspected that David got on the wrong train and tried to get off but added that it was just an initial assumption as the investigation is still ongoing.

According to preliminary autopsy results from Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (RSCM), David suffered severe injuries to the head.

David is the chairman of Jakarta National Paralympic Committee (NPC). He was born in Makassar on June 21, 1977 and was a well-known table tennis athlete.

According to Sindonews.com, Saturday (29/4), he has won 13 gold medals, four silver medals and four bronze medals at the Paralympics, World Championships, Asian Para Games (2014 and 2018,) Asian Championships (2015 and 2019) and ASEAN Para Games. (un)
