Kemenkes: dengue fever deaths hit 300 cases until February

Jakarta, IO – Mortality from dengue fever in Indonesia reached more than 300 cases until February, up from the previous year, revealed Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono based on data from the Health Ministry (Kemenkes) as of March 18, per CNBC Indonesia, Tue (26/3).

In January there were 161 deaths, up from 106 in the same month a year earlier. According to Dante, one of the causes is seasonal change and El Nino.

“The number of dengue fever cases of regencies/municipalities have increased compared to last year,” said Dante.

The number of dengue-induced deaths reached 316 in February. Worst affected regencies/municipalities were Jepara (Central Java), Bandung regency (West Java), Subang (West Java), Kendal (Central Java), and Blora (Central Java).

By province, the distribution was in West Java (94), Central Java (77), East Java (37), Central Kalimantan (13), and South Sumatra (13).

“By comparison, in the whole of 2023 there were 894 deaths,” said Dante.

By February, a total of 38,462 people have been infected with the highest figure recorded in West Java (10,428), followed by East Java (3,638), Central Java (3,152), North Sulawesi (2,763), and Central Kalimantan (2,309). (un)
