Kaws Exhibits a Giant Reclining Rabbit Doll at Prambanan Temple

Jakarta, IO – Through a world tour exhibition themed Kaws: Holiday which will last until the end of August, a US-based contemporary artist born in 1974, Brian Donelly, known professionally as Kaws is exhibiting a giant pink rabbit doll lying on its back in Prambanan Temple in Sleman, Yogyakarta.

His work went viral on social media and attracted people to flock to Prambanan Temple. They capture this rare moment and uploaded it on their social media. A number of foreign tourists were also interested in taking pictures with the giant balloon doll, per VOA, Monday (28/8).

Daniella, a tourist from Spain, was enthusiastic about the installation art at the UNESCO cultural heritage site. Aga, a visitor from Semarang, Central Java, thought it was unique because the balloon doll is the largest work of art ever displayed.

“This is very special, the color is also different because previously it was gray or black. In Indonesia it is pink,” said Aga.

Indonesia is the 10th location visited by Kaws. Previously, Kaws’ magnificent creation had been displayed in Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bristol, Singapore, Chiangmai, Melbourne, with various poses and different colors.

Before being known as a world famous artist, Kaws started his artistic journey on the streets. At the age of 12 he often made graffiti on buildings around where he lived. The man who graduated from the School of Visual Arts, New York in 1996 worked at Disney as a freelance animator to make animated backgrounds for 101 Dalmatians, Daria and Doug.

In 1999, Kaws received an invitation from Japanese company Bounty Hunter to produce the character “Companion”, a clown-like figure inspired by Mickey Mouse. This figure sold out immediately when the initial 500 pieces were made.

Throughout his career, the artist known for his distinctive artistic style, namely the X-shaped eye character, has collaborated with dozens of global brands. He is also known as a giant installation artist with a variety of distinctive shapes and colors, made of various materials such as fiberglass, aluminum, wood, bronze, iron and rubber. (rr)
