Indonesia holds cultural festival in Thailand to strengthen bilateral ties

Jakarta, IO – The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok collaborated with Walailak University to hold the Indonesian Festival on July 17-18 in a bid to strengthen bilateral relations as well as promote Indonesian culture.

The festival, attended by students from various majors, introduced Indonesian art and culture through various workshops such as dance, language, songs and Angklung traditional musical instrument, per Kemlu.go.id, Friday (21/7).

“Good relations between Indonesia and the Kingdom of Thailand has existed long before Indonesia’s independence in the 12th century during the reign of Sriwijaya and Majapahit Kingdoms,” said the Education and Culture Attache Achmad Wicaksono.

“This good relationship has continued to develop to date in various fields of cooperation thanks to the active role of various stakeholders in both countries, including Walailak University which has had several MoUs on educational cooperation with several universities in Indonesia,” he explained.

In the festival, Indonesian embassy set up several booths displaying tourism promotion brochures, handicraft products, statues, wayang and miniature musical instruments. This was the first such event and it is hoped it can become a regular agenda and lead to further collaborations.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the festival, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand Rachmat Budiman also gave a public lecture to students from the Faculty of Political Science. Rachmat mainly talked about the positive development of bilateral relations between the two countries. (bp)
