Jakarta, IO – As many as 122 Indonesian citizens have become victims of an international ring of kidney trade. Jakarta Metropolitan Police General Crime Investigation director Hengki Haryadi said they were lured to Cambodia to have their organ harvested in a hospital and then sold in the black market, per Kompas, Friday (21/7).

Hengki said each victim was offered Rp135 million for their kidney. He said police will examine the health of the victims by conducting CT scans and a number of other tests in the police’s forensic laboratory.

Six victims are being treated intensively at the Police Hospital, Kramatjati, East Jakarta. Police revealed that they have had 12 suspects.
“Of these 12, 10 are part of a syndicate and nine are former donors. Then there is the coordinator, H, who acted as an intermediary with the Cambodian culprits,” he explained.

Hengki said the suspects have different roles, from liaising with the hospitals, picking up potential donors, to managing accommodation for the victims.
