Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said the Indonesian government and FIFA would form a team to transform Indonesian football in the wake of the deadly riot at Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang, East Java, on Saturday (1/10).
This is one of the points in FIFA’s letter to President Jokowi as a follow-up after his conversation with FIFA president Gianni Infantino by phone on Monday (3/10).
“FIFA, together with the government, will form a transformation team for Indonesian football and FIFA will establish an office in Indonesia during this process,” said Jokowi on Saturday (8/10).
The letter also stated that Indonesian football is not subject to sanctions by FIFA related to the football tragedy that left 131 people dead and hundreds of others injured.
