Eliezer’s status as policeman will be decided in ethics committee trial

Jakarta, IO – The fate of Second Patrolman Richard Eliezer as a member of the National Police (Polri) will be decided through a Code of Ethics Commission (KKEP) trial by a panel of judges based on applicable law. Eliezer’s status as a justice collaborator in the premeditated murder of Brigadier Nofriansyah Yosua Hutabarat will be considered in the trial, said Polri spokesperson Dedi Prasetyo.

Eliezer was sentenced to 1.5 years in jail for the fatal shooting of Yosua.

“Based on Government Regulation 1/2003 and 7/2022, there are mechanism in KKEP trial. Of course, the panel will consider input from various parties, expert opinions and also of course most importantly his willingness to be a justice collaborator,” said Dedi, reported BeritaSatu, Thursday (16/2).

Dedi also said that National Police Chief Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo would consider input and opinions from the public regarding the possibility of Eliezer’s return to the force after serving his time. This is important to fulfil the sense of justice demanded by the general public in the case.

He said the KKEP trial has been scheduled by the Internal Affairs Division and the results of the ethics trial would be announced to the public. (bp)
