Jakarta, IO – Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto received a visit by the United States Congress delegation at the Defense Ministry, Jakarta, Friday (2/9).
The delegation was led by the US House Armed Services Committee chairman Rep. Adam Smith and the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces chairman Rep. Jim Cooper.
The meeting discussed the development of defense cooperation between Indonesia and the US as well as several recent regional and global security issues, including security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region.
Defense Minister Prabowo emphasized that the US is Indonesia’s strategic partner in defense. This statement is in line with the statements made by President Joko Widodo and US President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G20 in Italy on November 1, 2021, which emphasized the importance of the US-Indonesia Strategic Partnership and efforts to strengthen it.

“I hope Indonesia-US relations will become stronger, especially in the defense sector and the cooperation and friendship between the two countries will continue and grow in the spirit of mutual respect for our respective national interests,” said Defense Minister Prabowo. (rr)
