The Cianjur Regency Administration has issued an emergency status for disaster response for 30 days starting November 21-December 20.

BNPB Deputy for Prevention Prasinta Dewi said the agency and the Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry are collaborating in the Disaster Safety Education Unit (SPAB) program to raise awareness about disaster mitigation at schools.

“The SPAB program is integrated into existing programs in each area. We urge schools to carry out disaster preparedness drills or simulations at least once per academic year,” Prasinta told observerid.com, Tuesday (22/11).

In addition, Prasinta said that general prevention measures related to earthquake mitigation include installation of early warning devices, disaster signs, evacuation routes, contingency plans, rehearsals or preparedness training for the community.

“The number of schools in Indonesia is quite numerous and their distribution is also a challenge in the implementation of disaster education. With the pentahelix collaboration and enhanced awareness among local governments, we are confident that efforts to accelerate this program can be done,” she said.
