AGO seizes 56 ships, 1 chopper, 1 Cessna in relation to palm oil corruption case

Jakarta, IO – The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) seized dozens of vehicles including private jets, helicopters to ships belonging to several palm oil companies that were implicated in corruption cases related to crude palm oil (CPO) export license.

AGO spokesperson Ketut Sumedana said the agency has named large palm oil companies Wilmar Group, Musim Mas Group and Permata Hijau Group as corporate suspects. In detailed, the confiscations comprised 56 ships, one Airbus Helicopter and one Cessna aircraft, per CNBC Indonesia, Thursday (20/7).

Ketut said AGO has also blocked a number of flights to prevent the suspects from fleeing abroad. In this high-profile case, AGO has charged five of the defendants to 5-8 years of imprisonment.

The corruption case in the provision of export facilities for CPO and its derivatives from January 2021 to March 2022 has been completed and has permanent legal force (inkracht) at the appelate level.

Ketut explained that their actions had caused significant impact in the form of more expensive cooking oil and scarcity of the staple item. As a result, the state sustained a loss of around Rp6 trillion to meet the domestic needs and maintain people’s purchasing power. (un)
