Jakarta, IO – Have you ever worn any eco-print products? Be it a scarf, a piece of clothing, or even a bag.

Let’s get to know more about Eco-print, a printing technique where plants, leaves or flowers leave their shapes, color or marks on a piece of receptive fabric. The coloring technique uses natural resources that release the dye inside the plant. Therefore, this printing and coloring technique produces eco-friendly products, with no chemical contamination of the environment, fabric creators or consumers, unlike garments made with artificial dyes.

The “Back to Nature” campaign started in the 2000s. Now, more people favor natural products for personal use or as gifts. Eco-print products are one of the most popular natural products because of their uniqueness; they will not have the same color or design.

On May 13, 2023, an eco-print workshop was held at Muhammadiyah 1 JHS Jakarta, in collaboration with Praveena Ecoprint. A total of 93 participants from class 7 Muhammadiyah 1 JHS Jakarta participated in this workshop with great enthusiasm.

Kalya Mahiya Pravina, owner of Praveena Ecoprint, and Dewi Damayanti, coach of Praveena Ecoprint as well as Chair of the Indonesian Eco-Printer Association (AEPI) for the DKI Jakarta area, provided an opportunity for participants to produce their own eco-print works.

The workshop started at 8 a.m. and finished at 11.30 a.m. Participants learned the stages of making eco-prints and producing eco-printed fabrics with various unique colors and patterns.

The Independent Observer had the opportunity to speak with Kalya Mahiya Pravina. As a teenage girl, Kalya is very happy to share knowledge with friends at Muhammadiyah 1 JHS, Jakarta.
