Jakarta, IO – Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) will clarify with the British Ambassador to Indonesia on the hoisting of the rainbow/pride flag — a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) social movement — in front of the British Embassy in Setiabudi, South Jakarta, Thursday (17/5).
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will ask the British Ambassador in Jakarta for clarification, but we are still waiting for the directorate that oversees the British territory,” MoFA spokesperson Teuku Faizasyah was quoted as saying by VOA Indonesia, Monday (23/5).

This quick action was appreciated by University of Indonesia (UI)’s international law professor Prof. Dr. Hikmahanto Juwana. He said the summon will show to the Indonesian public that the government does not allow foreign embassies to disrespect the prevailing norms and values in Indonesia.
