The term democracy must be interpreted as from the people, by the people, and for the people because basically the sovereignty of the people is the crux of democracy. Democracy must provide protection to all people regardless of class, race, religion and socio-economic background.
“As a society, we need to look at the criminal code in a critical and thorough manner because that is the strategy of the political elites. The criminal code as a whole is about control. When they want to advance their interests, they have to control all aspects of people’s lives, from the public to personal domain,” said Dhyta.

Rosma, activist from Womxn Voice forum, concurred. She said all community groups need to speak out for their rights regarding this issue. There needs to be more discussion groups and forums to accommodate people’s voice, including that of women. Social media, which enabled speedy communication in real time, can serve as a powerful means in fighting for these rights. (bp)
