Thanks to its beauty, Karimunjawa earns Rp10b during Eid holiday

Jakarta, IO – Karimunjawa Islands is blessed with underwater beauty that will surely amaze anyone who comes to visit. Located in Jepara regency, Central Java. Comprising 27 islands, it has 1,500 hectares of land and 110,000 hectares of water.

It stunning coast and the seabed has made Karimunjawa a favorite underwater tourism destination, for locals and foreigners alike. Several beaches in this area include Ujung Gelam Beach, Batu Topeng Beach, Batu Hitam Beach, Bunga Jabe Beach and Batu Merah Beach. Snorkeling is one of the main activities in this national marine park.

Snorkeling tours are priced at around Rp700,000 to Rp900,000 for a maximum of 10 people. This price includes boat rent, lunch, tour guide, safety equipment, and underwater documentation. Within ten days of Eid holiday, the turnover is said to have reached up to Rp10 billion with around 10,000 tourists arrived by ships, according to Karimunjawa Tourism Bureau Association (PBWK) chairman Sudarmono, as reported by BeritaSatu, Tuesday (9/5).

During the 10 days, all facilities from lodging, motorbike rental services, cars, snorkeling equipment rental services to boat rentals were always full booked. In fact, the local residents offered their houses for lodgings because the hotels were unable to accommodate the influx of tourists.

“We can feel the positive impact for the local economy,” he said. Nevertheless, there are still things that need government attention, including the adequacy of public facilities and infrastructure to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors. (bp)
