Tense situations in Russia, Indonesian Embassy in Moscow asks citizens to be vigilant

Jakarta, IO – Indonesian Embassy in Moscow appealed to Indonesian citizens in Russia to be more alert, including by avoiding travel to Rostov and Voronezh.

According to a statement posted by the embassy’s official Twitter handle @kbrimoskow on Monday (26/6), the travel warning was issued following the security situation in Russia sparked by Wagner rebellion. It also asked Indonesian citizens to remain calm until the situation is conducive.

“Indonesian citizens in Rostov and Voronezh are advised to comply with local government directives not to leave their homes, dormitories, residences unless absolutely necessary,” the statement read.

In addition, Indonesian citizens are advised to always carry their travel documents when traveling and doing their daily activities due to increased security at public places and public transportation.

“Citizens are advised to report themselves via the Indonesian Citizen Care Portal,” added the statement.

The Russian government previously decided to implement a counter-terrorism policy after the Wagner mercenary group was deemed treasonous and accused of trying to stage an armed uprising.

On the other hand, Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin raged at Russia’s generals for an alleged attacks against his fighters. He has repeatedly accused the Russian Ministry of Defense of refusing to supply the private military company (PMC) with enough weapons, despite having been fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine.
