KPK Receives Corruption Investigation Report on Manpower Ministry during Muhaimin’s term

Jakarta, IO – The Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) submitted to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) an investigation on alleged corruption in the procurement of the Indonesian Migrant Worker protection system by the Manpower Ministry (Kemnaker) — formerly the Manpower and Transmigration Ministry (Kemnakertrans) — for the 2012 fiscal year, when it was helmed by Muhaimin “Cak Imin” Iskandar. The state loss is estimated to be Rp17.6 billion, per Katadata, Friday (19/1).

KPK has been looking into the money flow and financial transactions in this case since mid-2023. The antigraft agency has also named three suspects, comprising two civil servants (ASN) and a private individual. It conducted a search on the ministry on August 18, 2023 and questioned Muhaimin as witness for about five hours.

Muhaimin, born in Jombang, September 24, 1966, served as manpower minister from 2009-14 during the second administration of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and deputy speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) from 1999-2009 and re-elected from the second term since 2019. He also briefly served as the deputy speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) from 2018-19. He is currently the chairman of the the National Awakening Party (PKB) since 2005 and is the running mate of presidential candidate No 1 Anies Baswedan.

He gained his bachelor’s degree from Gadjah Mada University’s (UGM) Social and Political Sciences Faculty, a master’s degree in communications from the University of Indonesia in 2001, and got a doctorate from Airlangga University in 2018.

He started his political career in 1998. Together with prominent figures from Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), including the 4th Indonesian President Abdurrahman Wahid, founded PKB. He has held a number of top positions in the party including secretary general. (un)
