Jakarta, IO – China is set to build an Automated Rail Transit (ART) in the Nusantara Capital District (IKN). This was announced after a meeting between Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi and Chinese Minister of Transportation Li Xiaopeng in Beijing aimed at increasing bilateral cooperation in the transportation sector.

Budi said an assessment has been carried out with the Chinese side through the CRRC Corporation and he expressed the Indonesia government’s desire to use the system, per detikcom, Thu (18/1).

“One train set consists of three carriages and can carry up to 307 passengers at the operational speed of 40 km/hour and maximum speed of 70 km/hour,” said Budi.

It is reported that CRRC will bring the system to Indonesia and showcase it at an exhibition in IKN around July 2024 to demonstrate its capabilities.

So, how sophisticated is it? Budi shared his experience riding ART in a video uploaded to Instagram. At first glance, the blue train looked like the Jabodebek LRT. The interior also looks familiar. But what makes the train different is that it is not traveling on rails but asphalt.

“Take a look at this train, there are no rails, only a small magnet on the road,” said Budi. He then said that Indonesia already has the first Whoosh HSR and is enthusiastic that Indonesia will also become the first country to use the ART outside China. (rr)
