Kominfo Blocks Nearly 2 Million Pornographic Content on the Internet

Jakarta, IO – Communications and Information Ministry (Kominfo) has blocked nearly 2 million pornographic content from a number of platforms.

Communications and Information Minister Budi Arie Setiadi explained that until September 14, the Directorate General of Informatics Applications had cut off access to a total of 1,950,794 pornographic content, per CNNIndonesia, Wednesday (20/9).

From this number, Budi said that 60,791 pieces of content were blocked after he was inaugurated in mid-July. He said that most of them were still found on social media.

“There is 18,219 content on the website, 42,521 content on social media and 51 content on file sharing platforms,” he said.

This measure is in line with Government Regulation 71/2019 on the Implementation of Electronic Systems and Transactions which is then outlined in detail through Communications and Information Ministerial Regulation 5/2020 on private electronic services providers (ESPs).

This regulation gives Kominfo the authority to directly cut off access to gambling and pornographic content. (un)
