Kemlu to repatriate body of dead Indonesian student killed by falling tree in Australia

Jakarta, IO – Alifia Soeryo, 22, was crushed to death by 10-ton tree in Adelaide, Australia, on Wednesday (7/10). The accident happened when she was exercising in the University of Adelaide area. She was resting under a tree when the tree suddenly fell on her, per Viva, Mon (12/2).

She received emergency treatment but unfortunately her life could not be saved. The news was confirmed by Foreign Ministry (Kemlu). The ministry’s citizen protection director Judha Nugraha said he has received the information from the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney.

Based on this report, he said that the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney had coordinated with the local police, including carrying out an autopsy. “The Indonesian Consulate General has also facilitated family communication and coordination with the funeral home,” he said.

Judha said that the government would continue to coordinate with local authorities to assist the family in arranging the body to be flown back to Indonesia. (un)
