Kemlu to provide logistics needed by Indonesian citizens displaced by Japan earthquake

Jakarta, IO – As many as 105 Indonesian citizens (WNI) had to evacuate after an earthquake shook the Ishikawa and a number of other areas in western Japan, Monday (1/1).

Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) citizen protection director Judha Nugraha provided the details as follow: 53 in Ogi, 25 in Suzu and 27 in Saika, per Kompas, Wed (3/1).

Judha said that based on information from the Indonesian embassy in Tokyo, hundreds of Indonesian citizens are in urgent need of logistics. He said that Kemlu would immediately mobilize resources to fulfill this need.

“New information shows that there are a number of Indonesian citizens who are housed in shelters and need logistical assistance,” said Judha. “The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo will immediately send emergency logistical assistance to those in the affected areas.”

Judha said there was report that nine Indonesian citizens who fled to seek refuge. They consisted of six students in Toyama, one in Noto and two interns in Ishikawa.

To date, the embassy has recorded that there are 1,315 Indonesian citizens living in Ishikawa. The tremors produced by the massive quake were also being felt in Fukushima, Shizuoka, Aichi, Mie, Kyoto and Osaka. (un)
