It’s Official! Jakarta No Longer Indonesia’s capital

Jakarta, IO – Jakarta officially loses its Special Capital Region (DKI) status after the House of Representatives (DPR) passed the Jakarta Special Region (DKJ) bill into law in a plenary session chaired by House speaker Puan Maharani on Thursday (28/3), per Kompas.

The session was attended by 303 members with 69 physically present. The only party that rejected the bill passage was the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).

The change of status is stipulated in Article 2(1) of the law. Nevertheless, Jakarta will remain an important role as Indonesia’s financial capital, the country’s economic, commercial and entertainment nerve center and a global city to support sustainable national development. (un)
