Interpol fugitive, suspected of link with Italian mafia, nabbed in Bali

Jakarta, IO – Antonio Strangio was arrested by Bali Immigration officers after arriving at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport where he was transiting on his journey from Malaysia to Australia. The 32-year-old fugitive will be handed over to National Central Bureau (NCB)-Interpol Rome.

Head of Bali Immigration Barron Ichsan said Antonio has been on Interpol’s most wanted list since 2016, reported Liputan6, Monday (20/2).

“He will be extradited soon. However, we cannot reveal the time and flight number for security reason,” he said.

Bali Police spokesperson Stefanus Satake Bayu Setianto said the National Police (Polri) is coordinating with the Italian Interpol in the extradition process.

Antonia masqueraded himself as a real estate entrepreneur in Australia, with dual Italian and Australian citizenship. He was issued a red notice for the distribution of 160 kilograms of marijuana in Italy.

He is also believed to be involved in the Italian organized crime network – the Ndrangheta – which is often involved in drug trafficking, fraud and other crimes. (un)
