Of late, several new subvariants — XE, XD, XF — were found. The XE is a recombinant of Omicron BA.1 and BA.2 subvariants first detected from a specimen on January 19 in the UK. So far in the UK there have been 763 cases.
This XE subvariant is more contagious than BA.2, but then there is not enough evidence to demonstrate its impact on the society. Meanwhile, XD and XF are recombinants of Delta AY.4 and Omicron BA.1.
“To date, we have yet to detect XE, XD, XF subvariants in Indonesia,” said Nadia. (rr)
