Jakarta – Neil Bantleman, the former teacher of the Jakarta International School (JIS), has been free since he just received clemency from President Joko Widodo. “Neil Bantleman has received clemency from the president, so he has been free from the Cipinang Correctional Institution Class 1,” Ade Kusmanto, the Head of Public Relations of the Directorate General of Correctional Institution said on Friday (7/11/2019).
Neil was sentenced to 10 years in prison and has been in prison since 2014, and now he is free. Neil’s brother Guy said that his brother had returned to Canada. Meanwhile, Neil Bantleman insists on his being innocent. “Five years ago, I was wrongly accused and found guilty of a crime I did not commit,” Neil Bantleman said in a written statement as reported by Reuters on Friday (11/07/2019).
