Jakarta, IO – Presidential special staff for legal affairs Shanti Purwono said the official and total relocation of Indonesia’s administrative capital from Jakarta to Nusantara will be formalized through a presidential decree (Keppres).

Dini cannot confirm when the Keppres will be issued because it is the prerogative of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, per CNN Indonesia, Fri (8/3).

“Jakarta will still remain the national capital until the presidential decree on the relocation is issued,” Dini affirmed.

She said the government will ensure that the interval will not be too far apart between the Keppres issuance and designation of Jakarta’s new status as a special autonomous region as per the Jakarta Special Region (DKJ) bill.

Nonetheless, Dini explained that the issuance of a Keppres is not contingent upon the passage of DKJ bill. According to her, there would be no legal vacuum in Jakarta if the Keppres is issued before the bill become law.

“So only certain articles that will be revoked in the DKJ bill, not the entirety,” explained Dini.

Meanwhile, the House Legislative Body (Baleg) previously said that Jakarta’s status as the capital city effectively ended on February 15 as a consequence of the National Capital City (IKN) Law gazetted on February 15, 2022. (un)
