Effective since February, Indonesian citizens can travel visa-free to Hainan

Jakarta, IO – Indonesian tourists can now visit China’s Hainan province without a visa, per Kompas, Thu (14/3). This policy took effect in February 2024.

Hainan also waived visas for citizens of 58 other countries. The visa is valid for 30 days for business purposes, family visits, medical treatment, exhibitions and sports.

In other words, visa exemption will only be given for work and study purposes. Hasan, a travel agent from Indonesia, said the policy is expected to strengthen good relations between the two countries.

“It will make travel between the two regions easier,” said Hasan. “It will also forms a ‘bridge’ for economic, tourism and cultural exchanges between the two regions.”

Hainan is an island at the southernmost part of China. The island has a tropical climate with mountainous landscapes. Popular touristy areas include Sanya, Wanning, Wenchang, Changjiang, Haikou, and Danzhou.

Tourists can visit salt fields, try out various water sports, surf, explore amusement parks, visit museums, relax on the beach, and embark on a culinary tour. (un)
