Chronology of Accident that Kills Young Badminton Athlete Syabda Perkasa Belawa

Jakarta, IO – Indonesian young badminton athlete Syanda Perkasa Belawa died from accident on Pemalang toll road, Central Java, Monday (20/3) around 3.40 am WIB, reported Tempo.co.

Central Java Regional Police spokesperson Iqbal Alqudusy said the accident scene was on KM 315 Toll Road, Petanjungan Village, Petarukan District, Pemalang Regency.

According to Iqbal, the accident involves a Toyota Camry B 1824 KBN which crashes with Colt Diesel truck AG 871 V. Five people fall victims in the incident.  “Two people died and three were injured,” he said.

The two dead victims are Syabda, 22, and Anik Sulistyowati, 48. The accident happens when the car driven by Syabda was traveling from west to east on the left lane at a high speed.

“We suspect the driver was sleepy, which causes collision with the truck in front of him,” said Iqbal.

Syabda suffered a severe head injury and died during treatment.  “All victims were evacuated to RSI Al Ikhlas Pemalang,” said Iqbal.

The Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) through via its Instagram and Twitter accounts confirms the accident and expresses its deepest condolences. (at)
