Jakarta, IO – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issues warnings that dozens of regions in Indonesia will potentially be affected by extreme weather events in the form of heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds. This situation is expected to occur in the next week.

The 12 regions with alert status are Central Java, Banten, East Nusa Tenggara, Central Kalimantan, Lampung, West Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, Maluku, and Papua, per Katadata, Fri (15/3).

BMKG also predicts that the impact of moderate to heavy intensity rain could also potentially occur in a number of areas of Sumatra, West Java, and Maluku.

BMKG head Dwikorita Karnawati said that the extreme weather could lead to natural disaster. She said the situation is triggered by a number of things, one of which being the effect of three Tropical Cyclone Seeds at once.

“Three tropical cyclone seeds, Tropical Cyclone Seeds 91S, 94S, and 93P are monitored around the Indian Ocean south of Java, the Timor Sea, and the Australian Sea, affecting the southern part of Indonesia,” he said.
