Jakarta, IO – Terong Village in Belitung has been named one of the 75 best tourist villages in the 2023 by Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI). The award was personally presented by Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, reported Detik, Saturday (3/6).

The village used to be an abandoned tin mine. The tourism awareness group (Pokdarwis) together with the community then transformed it into a leading tourist destination.

The village has a strategic location because it is situated near the main places of interest in Belitung. The village has many potentials such as beaches, mangroves, plantations and hilly areas. Most of the locals are fisherfolks and farmers.

Cultural tourism is also one of the features that it offers. Various art activities such as traditional dances and stringed music are often performed for guests, as well as the local customs and wisdom of the people.

“The potential of this village is proof that we have world-class tourism. Apart from its natural tourism potential, I am also very interested in its creative economic potential,” said Sandiaga Uno.

It only took the village three years, from 2013 to 2016, to transform itself into a beautiful tourist destination. (un)
