Raja Sapta Oktohari, Chairman of NOC Indonesia

Jakarta, IO – Raja Sapta Oktohari, Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia), paid a visit to the national badminton training center in Cipayung, Jakarta, on Tuesday, February 27.

“I come here only to convey the hopes of the people. I believe, without a doubt, that badminton will bring home gold medals for Indonesia,” said Okto.

Badminton has always been a benchmark for other sports in Indonesia. “Badminton would usually be the first to earn a gold. I believe badminton will secure us gold medals. Badminton has never disappointed us. Badminton becomes the benchmark for other sports,” Okto stated.

Based on collected points for the Paris Olympics, at least five athletes have secured tickets to compete, including Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Jonatan Christie, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and Apriyani RahayuSiti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti.

Okto expects support from all parties for the Paris 2024 Olympics, including from netizens. “Indonesian netizens should not bully athletes. Bullying athletes means betraying our nation. It raises questions about our identity. Our athletes are very valuable,” Okto added.

Okto believes that the athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Olympics will strive to give their best, including winning gold medals. “This is not anything new for badminton. Other sports also have the potential to win gold medals at the Paris Olympics,” he continued.

“We have gold potential from men’s and women’s rock climbing, as well as weightlifting from Eko Yuli Irawan and Rahmat Erwin Abdullah, who still hold records and are world champions,” he added.

May our Indonesian athletes be successful at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, which is scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024. (rp)
