Jakarta, IO – West Java Governor Ridwan “Kang Emil” Kamil has become Golkar Party’s newest cadre in the run-up to 2024 Elections. His joining was personally announced by Golkar chairman Airlangga Hartarto in Jakarta, Wednesday (18/1), reported CNN Indonesia, Thu (19/1).

He also assumes the position of deputy chairman as well as co-chair of Golkar Election Committee (Bappilu).

“I didn’t ask for the positions, but it was a mere act of kindness from Mr. Airlangga to entrust me with them,” Ridwan said.

He said he decided to join Golkar Party for three reasons. First, he believes that Golkar is a political party that takes the middle ground and refuses to engage in “identity conflicts.”

Second, he sees Golkar as a very respectable party with long history and is known for its progressiveness. Finally, he has a longstanding relationship with Airlangga and they often exchanged views about the economy and politics.

Ridwan said he will toe the party’s line including the promoting Airlangga as the party’s presidential candidate. He also believes that his tens of millions of social media followers will be attracted to Golkar’s programs.

“I post once a day or every other day about Golkar and try to communicate using smarter and more persuasive narratives. I am convinced the message will stick (in the minds of voters),” Emil said. (un)
