Jakarta, IO – Gerindra Party central executive board chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said the resolutions of Ijtima Ulama Nusantara would be considered by Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto and National Awakening Party (PKB) chairman Muhaimin Iskandar in determining their next steps in the run-up to the 2024 elections.
Dasco said Gerindra and PKB already made a joint decision to nominate Prabowo and Muhaimin as presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
“Of course, whatever decisions or requests by the clerics, will be considered by Pak Prabowo and Pak Muhaimin, who have signed a coalition agreement, to jointly determine the presidential and vice-presidential candidates,” said Dasco, reported Merdeka, Monday (16/1).
Dasco further said that Gerindra appreciated the resolutions of Ijtima Ulama Nusantara because it has also strengthened PKB internally. Regarding the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, Dasco said it is best to wait for the final decision from the two party chiefs.
Ijtima Ulama Nusantara was held by PKB Shura (Advisory) Council in Jakarta, January 13-14, 2023. The congregation resulted in a number of recommendations, one of which was to support PKB chairman Muhaimin Iskandar to run.

It also recommended Islamic scholars, clerics, and pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) leaders, especially those from Nahdlatul Ulama – the largest Islamic organization in Indonesia – to eradicate sexual violence in educational institutions, especially religiously affiliated ones.
“And trying to deliver justice to victims of sexual violence by providing assistance and means to help them recover,” it stated. (un)
