Jakarta, IO – Chinese New Year is coming soon. The festive atmosphere can be seen on the streets, shops and malls with lanterns and other red-themed accessories to mark the occasion.

The joy to welcome the year of the Water Rabbit is also visible in the Gho family who lives in the city of Jambi in Sumatra. Gho Seng Kuat (Aliang), 61, and his wife Gho Po Cu (Acu or Darmawati), 55, have been making preparations. He made an assortment of pastries to be served to visiting relatives and guests, reported Kompas, Thursday (19/1).

But there is something unique about the Gho family, which consist of different religious devotees. Aliang and Acu adhere to Confucianism. Their eldest child Davis is a Catholic. Their second child Andi and third child Suyono embrace Islam. While the youngest Amelia Fransisca is a Buddhist. But even though they have different beliefs, they are tolerant toward one another.

Acu said that the family always lives in harmony. She also respects the decision of her children to choose their own religion. She said the happiest time of the year is when her extended family gather at her house to celebrate Lunar New Year.
