IO – Singer and member of Parliament Mulan Jameela shared a birthday wish to the capital of the Republic of Indonesia, Jakarta, Monday 22 June.
“Happy 493rd birthday to Jakarta. Hopefully, its citizens will become more solid, harmonious and cosmopolitan, able to stand the struggle and patiently pass the COVID-19 pandemic test, while supporting and helping one another,” Mulan declared, as reported by Antara.
The COVID 19 pandemic has indeed exerted an extraordinary impact, especially in the economic field. Because of this, mutual assistance is required to ease the burden on needy members of the community.
This member of Commission VII of Parliament also sends wishes all the people of Indonesia that they may maintain their health and stay able to fight COVID 19. “Healthy, prosperous, happy for all of us. Aamiin Ya Robbal Alamiin,” said the wife of musician Ahmad Dhani.
Mulan was born in West Java Garut on 23 August 1979 under the name Raden Terry Tantri Wulansari. She began her career as a singer in 1997, starting off with the stage name Wulan Ardina, and releasing a solo album titled Aku Tetap Tersenyum.
However, her fame skyrocketed after joining the Duo Ratu with Dhani’s ex-wife, Maia Estianty in 2005, where she used the name Mulan Kwok.
Their first single, Teman Tapi Mesra, proved a huge success and won several awards, selling 400 thousand copies. Their second album, No. Satu, also skyrocketed, with the mainstay song of Lelaki Buaya Darat.
Two years of pursuing a career with Duo Ratu, Mulan concluded with her choosing to pursue a solo career, under the name Mulan Jameela – the name of her first solo album, “Mulan Jameela”. The album, dominated by pop-rock music, was composed by Ahmad Dhani, producing four hits on the song Makhluk Tuhan Paling Sexy, Wonder Woman, Bukannya Aku Takut dan Jatuh Cinta Lagi. In fewer than two months, this album marked sales of 75,000 copies and is plied with platinum. Mulan has been able to break through several award nominations: she became the only Indonesian soloist to be nominated at the 2008 MTV Asia Awards in Genting, Malaysia.
Mulan then penetrated the world of acting, first starring in FTV Primadona Mencari Surga in 2006, along with Darius Sinathrya, Indra Birowo, and Aming. In 2007, Mulan starred in a soap opera titled “Pasangan Heboh” with Baim Wong. Several FTV titles followed Mulan the same year. While on the big screen, Mulan starred in a film called Maaf Saya Menghamili Istri Anda with Ringo Agus Rahman. For her first film, Mulan was nominated at the 2007 MTV Indonesia Movie Awards in the Breakthrough Actor/Actress category.
Mulan aroused controversy when she decided to go into politics. She became a legislative candidate from the Gerindra Party in the 2019 General Elections. The controversy did not dampen her determination; Mulan was elected as a member of Parliament from the electoral district of West Java XI. (rp)
