Miss Indonesia from North Sumatra appointed as tourism ambassador for the US

Jakarta, IO – Sarah Panjaitan is tasked with promoting Indonesian tourism especially the attractions and culture of her home province to the Americans.

During her visit to Chicago, Sarah, who was born in 1997, was welcomed and supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) holding a tourism promotion event at the Chicago Travel Adventure Show (CITAS). She said her mission was to carry out her duties as one of the Miss Indonesia finalists and fulfill her late father’s wish that she would always bring pride to her motherland.

“I am thankful for the full support from the Indonesian Consulate General,” she said, reported VOA Indonesia, Monday (27/3).

Besides CITAS, she will also promote Indonesian products at the International Trade Partners Conference (ITPC) and at the New York Fashion Week she will wear Toba’s traditional hand-woven fabric and exhibited the work of famous Indonesian designers such as Lisa Ju.

“I wear a dress from Toba, Tarutung to be precise, which uses natural dyes,” she explained.

For her role that she took up since January 2023, she was awarded by the Indonesian High Representative in New York. She hopes that her steps can inspire other Indonesian women to also make Indonesia proud. (bp)
