With regard to the party’s presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, Megawati emphasized that as chair of the party she reserves sole authority to pick the nominee. She said she has been given mandate by the party congress as the highest decision-making body in this respect.
In addition, she stressed her stance on the presidential term which she said should stick to constitutional provision and mutual consensus, namely for a maximum of two 5-year term.
She hopes the country will remain consistent and continue to uphold Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution as the social consensus of the state. She also spoke about female leadership, saying that women, especially PDI-P cadres, must be ready to fight and lead. She mentioned a number of female leaders as role model of bravery and success, from Queen Shima of the Kalingga Kingdom to Malahayati, the first female admiral in the world from Aceh.
She asked PDI-P cadres to emulate them and believes that men and women have equal status. (un)
