Indonesian barista Mikael Jasin crowned winner of 2024 World Barista Championship

Jakarta, IO – Mikael “Miki” Jasin cruised to victory at the 2024 World Barista Championship in Busan, South Korea after triumphing over 53 other baristas from around the world.

In the final round, he bested five baristas from Australia, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the Netherlands.

“Congratulations to the 2024 Barista World Champion: Mikael Jasin representing Indonesia!” announced Instagram account @worldcoffeechampionship, Monday (6/5).

In the final, Miki served his signature drink called Aji espresso. It was made from Ethiopia coffee beans that is inoculated with yeast and heat and grown at Finca El Diviso in Huila, Colombia, per Kompas.

Mikael Jasin makes Aji espresso by mixing three types of milk – 60 percent milk, 20 percent cashew milk and 20 percent oat milk. All the ingredients are then evaporated to a concentration of 80 percent.

Apart from that, Miki also makes espresso from Gesha coffee produced at Finca Deborah in Volcan, Panama. The ground Gesha coffee beans are brewed with a longer brewing ratio of 2.5:1, giving it a distinctive aroma and taste.

These two servings managed to impress the judges, who often approached his station to watch him mix his secret recipe. (un)
