Jakarta, IO – Workers from several labour confederations conducted peaceful rally to commemorate the International Labor Day on May 1 near the chariot statue in Central Jakarta. Thousands of workers voiced their aspirations and rights, united in solidarity to demand fair and just treatment in workplace and welfare for their fellow workers across Indonesia.
One of their main demands is the repeal of the Omnibus Law (Jobs Creation Law) and the abolishment of outsourcing low paid work. They argued that the law not only threatens their rights, but also creates uncertainty about the future of work. They highlighted minimal severance pay, flexible working hours without job security guarantee, as well as uncertainty in leave arrangements, especially for female workers who face special challenges such as menstrual leave and maternity leave.

Labor Day commemoration is not only held in Jakarta, but also simultaneously in big cities throughout Indonesia. In Jakarta, the rally is centered in two locations, namely the chariot statue and Istora Senayan.
