Jakarta, IO – Groups of volunteers assemble shell baskets during the “Amazing Earth Race” activity in the Ancol Beach area, Jakarta, to commemorate the Earth Day on May 22. PT Pembanguan Jaya Ancol invited 200 volunteers to do their parts in preserving the environment.
These activities include the green mussel restoration program called “Jernih Laut Jakarta” and “Cool Without Plastic” awareness-raising campaign. The participants, consisting of various communities such as Teens Go Green Indonesia, Sekolah Rakyat Ancol, Langit Biru Pertiwi, and Hotel Discovery Ancol, joined hands to educate Ancol visitors about environmental issues.
Ancol has conducted the marine conservation program since 2018, and it has succeeded in planting more than 355,000 green mussels which are capable of filtering 71,000 liters of sea water per hour, equivalent to 51.1 million liters of water per month. More than 1,100 individuals also participated in planting green mussel shells in Ancol waters as part of this program.

Ancol claimed that this initiative has led to an increase in the population of several marine biota such as coral fish and crabs which is a clear indicator that the conservation program is working.
