KPAI records 2,355 cases of violence against children from January-August

Jakarta, IO – This figure was revealed by the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI). Of that, 861 occurred within the educational settings. KPAI elaborated that the cases consisted of sexual violence (487), physical/psychological violence (236), bullying (87), violence induced by school policies (87) and violence due to inadequate school facilities (27), per Kompas, Tuesday (10/10).

Meanwhile, the remaining 1,494 cases related to parenting and the fulfilment of children’s civil rights and right to health. KPAI Commissioner Aris Adi Leksono said that his commission was focused on cases of violence in educational institutions because the number continues to rise every month.

“We need to raise public awareness to reduce the rate of child violence, especially in educational settings,” he said.

Aris also said KPAI has taken quick steps by directly monitoring violence that occurred in educational environment, among others, by overseeing a number of cases whose judicial processes are still ongoing.

“KPAI gives intense attention to cases of child violence at schools in Rempang, Batam, South Jakarta, Cilacap and Balikpapan,” said Aris.

It has also coordinated with relevant parties to ensure that those cases can be resolved in proper and just manner. (un)
